**Note: this is an accelerated version of our full course, meant as a summer review/prepare course. All sections will end by the end of August. Looking for a summer Algebra 1 class where your learner will be an active participant in their own learning? Well, look no further! This will be a highly interactive class, where learners participate throughout the entire class, in the way that they personally feel comfortable doing so. At Mind over Math, we believe that every learner should be given the opportunity to participate in ways that feel comfortable for them and promote learning and understanding, for their own individual learning style. Our classes are set up in such a way that does exactly that.

This class is an accelerated version of a full year Algebra 1 class – we will cover the entire curriculum over the span of 11 weeks. This class is designed for learners that either:
a) have already taken Algebra 1 and could benefit from a review class over the summer to keep their skills sharp and be fully prepared for Geometry/Algebra 2 in the fall, or;
b) have not taken Algebra 1 yet, but have completed Pre-Algebra, and are looking to get ahead and preview all Algebra 1 topics over the summer to prepare to take a full year Algebra 1 course starting in the fall

We will be using the following learning tools during class:

– Nearpod: an interactive learning tool that provides the teacher with real-time insights into student understanding through interactive lessons and activities
– Blooket: an exciting new take on the modern classroom review game. It aims to match action with education to create the ultimate learning experience!

The class is taught with the following structure:

The teacher explains the concepts and discusses them with learners, presents an example, then after each example the teacher presents, the learners get a turn to try their own example on Nearpod. Once the teacher sees that learners have completed the example on Nearpod, they come back together as a group to take up the problem. They continue to go back and forth in this way for the duration of class, so that learners are always given the opportunity to try every concept learned on their own. Learners can participate by asking and answering questions out loud, through the chat, or by simply participating individually on Nearpod – however they feel comfortable and learn best. Blooket games will also be incorporated throughout the classes to consolidate learning, while having fun!
