As a person who struggled with math as a student, I can empathize with and relate to students as they try to learn new and difficult concepts. I display patience with the learners, give them time to respond, and offer encouragement for their efforts.

This is a complete academic course covering Lessons 1 – 60 of Saxon Algebra 1. The goal is to cover 3-4 lessons each week. In this ongoing class, students will meet twice a week to learn and practice the topics in the course. Some topics include fractions, decimals, metric system, exponents, geometry, order of operations and scientific notation.

During each class, we will complete a quick review of the previous lesson, as necessary. The new lesson will then be introduced to the learners. I will complete practice problems with the learners. Students are encouraged to ask questions in class. I will make every effort to involve all students in class participation.

As appropriate, I incorporate review games into the lessons to further solidify the math concepts to the learners.

Students should be familiar with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts.

Learners should try to complete some of the practice and review exercises for each lesson.

I recommend getting the Solutions Manual (Saxon Algebra 1, 3rd Edition, Solutions Manual). It contains step-by-step solutions to every problem in the textbook.

This is a great way for learners and parents to check answers and get a full understanding of how to solve each problem.

The answers to the odd-numbered exercises are in the back of the textbook.
